Playing Spiritual Whack-a-Mole

Posted on August 2, 2010. Filed under: Uncategorized |

One of my favorite games at Chuck E. Cheese (except ski ball of course 🙂 ) is the one sometimes called Whack-a-Mole. You know the one I’m talking about. Where the little moles or whatever they are pop up and you get to pound them back down. There’s something so thrilling and stress-relieving about it! 🙂

Today God gave me that game as a picture of how we can deal with Satan. Because just like the moles in that game, Satan keeps on popping his ugly head into all kinds of place in our lives. We tend to let him stay there, hanging around. Sometimes we even follow along with him.  But Ephesians 4:27 warns us to not “give the devil a foothold.” Meaning the instant he pops his head up, we need to whack him back down!

Jesus did this by using scripture as a weapon against Satan’s temptations (Matthew 4). Every time Satan tried to deceive Him, Jesus quoted a scripture that proclaimed the truth and refused to do what Satan wanted him to do. After three times of doing this, Satan went away. Jesus wouldn’t even give him a chance. Whack!!

We can do the same thing. When Satan tries to lie to us, let’s whip out God’s truth to throw against the lies. When Satan tries to cause tension and hate among us, let’s respond with back with love and forgiveness. Whack!

I love this practical picture of knocking back our enemy every time he pops up. Isn’t it thrilling?? 🙂 What are some other ways we can whack down the devil??

I love this thought..I’ve actually made the same connection between whack-a-mole and prayer…when we censor our own thoughts instead of letting them pop up and let God deal with them instead of just our own strength! I’m a big fan of your analogy too! 🙂

Thanks!! I like yours too!! You’re right, sometimes it’s more than we can handle and we need to learn to hand over the “whacker” to God and let Him take care of it!! 🙂
