Already Under Control

This study on Genesis has me really intrigued. It’s only been one week and I’ve already learned so many new things about a book that I would have said I practically had memorized. One thing about studying the Bible in depth as an adult is that you start asking questions about things that slipped by or you just accepted as you learned about it growing up. For example, one thing I started asking about this time was why God didn’t want Adam and Eve to eat from the tree of life. Genesis 3:22 says, “And the Lord God said, ”The man has now become like one of us, knowing good and evil. He must not be allowed to reach out his hand and take also from the tree of life and eat, and live forever.'” In a sense, it almost seems that God is threatened by the thought of man knowing between good and evil and living forever. But as I thought about it and everything I know about God, I realized that’s not what it is.  God said that man must not be allowed to reach out his hand and take. In other words, man can’t by his own human effort have eternal life. I think God intended for Adam and Even to have eternal life all along. Eden was a perfect paradise, free of pain and death. But instead of trusting God, Adam and Even took things into their own hands and (as we always do) they made a mess of things. We now have to live with the consequences of sin and life is no longer easy and free of pain, but God gives us another chance for eternal life through Jesus. And once again, it is not through our human effort, but through His grace! From the beginning of time, we have been worrying and running after things that God already has under control. And time and time again, He steps in with His grace and provides a way out of the mess we have made for ourselves. Will we ever learn?? 🙂

Trina, I am so amazed at the insight you have. Some of us older christians need to learn from some of you younger ones. I am very proud of you.
